Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser Review 2021

Our Verdict

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser is a super-gentle skin cleaning product that won’t irritate the skin or clog your pores.

  • Gentle, hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic ingredients.
  • Smells like roses naturally without skin-irritating synthetic fragrance.
  • Balancing for combination skin and removes oil without over-drying.
  • Leaves skin feeling incredibly soft and smooth.

  • In rare cases, caused an allergic reaction in a few individuals.
  • Not for those allergic to roses or who dislike rose water.

Glossier started to make a notable name for itself since it launched in 2014, especially with younger demographics.

However, its products are not only for the young.

Almost anyone can benefit from skincare like hypoallergenic, gentle face washes that do not over-dry the skin.

Many people don’t even realize that several of the ingredients in skincare can not only irritate the skin but also make breakouts worse.

Several face washes claiming to do the opposite can clog pores and increase flaking because of fragrances, sulfates, waxy residues, and excessive use of salicylic acid.

We wanted to know if this Glossier product was really as fantastic as it claims to be, so we took a more in-depth look into their Milky Jelly Cleanser

If you’ve thought about trying this gentle wash, read on for our Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser review.

What is Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser?

Glossier Milky Jelly Review

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser is a pH-balanced face wash with ultra-gentle ingredients that you can use as a makeup remover or a daily facial cleanser.

When you use it on dry skin, it works more as a makeup remover.

When you apply to wet skin, it acts as a calming wash.

Glossier claims that this face wash is suitable for “all skin types” including acne-prone, combination, dry, oily, and those with early signs of aging.

This cleanser does not have harsh sulfates, so it does not foam up like a thick soap, but it still cleans the skin effectively.

Key Ingredients

One of the most intriguing things we found about Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser is that the company utilizes poloxamer, a mild cleansing agent that you can find in contact lens solution.

If it’s gentle enough to go into your eyes with contacts, it’s likely mild enough for even the most sensitive skin.

Glossier also uses comfrey root extract, which many think can help heal stressed skin.

Vitamin B5 is another component of this facial cleanser and is a nutrient shown to enhance moisture in the skin.

Aquaxyl is yet another ingredient that improves the skin’s barrier to help hold in water, preventing a dehydrated feeling of the epidermis after washing.

What we love is that Glossier replaced a quarter of the water content in this formula with rose water.

Rose has been used in skincare for thousands of years and has several benefits for the skin, including anti-aging effects.

The rose water in this product also smells so good but is a fragrance derived from a gentle, natural substance, not synthetic fragrances that can irritate the skin.

If that’s not enough, this wash is also sulfate-free, paraben-free, soap-free, and hypoallergenic.

How Much Does it Cost?

On Glossier’s website, the Milky Jelly Cleanser costs $9 for two ounces and $18 for six ounces.

Glossier has free shipping on orders over $30.

Returns and exchanges are super simple, too. The company does not include packing slips, so you only have to email them at gTEAM@glossier.com to let them know you’d like to return a product or have one exchanged.

You can return items bought through the website up to 30 days after receiving the product.

Getting the product through the company’s website seems to be the way to go, as the same six-ounce size goes for over $30 on Amazon.

How to Use Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser

This cleanser is gentle enough to use daily. If you’re wearing waterproof makeup, you may need to use a makeup remover before washing your face.

  1. 1
Step one: apply one to two pumps to dry skin to remove regular (non-waterproof) makeup or apply to wet skin to wash your face.
  2. 2
Step two: massage the cleanser around, making sure to get all areas with makeup or excess oil.
  3. 3
Step three: rinse with water and pat dry; follow with your favorite serum or face lotion.

Don’t expect this face wash to foam up like a heavy-lather product.

It is soap-free and cleanses your skin thoroughly without stripping it with harsh sulfates.

Below you will find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions concerning Glossier Milky Jelly.

Does Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser Really Work?

After we tested this cleanser, we have to say yes, it works.

It’s not the most effective product in removing waterproof or especially stubborn makeup, even when used dry on the skin.

However, with just a little makeup remover or a dab of coconut oil, you can loosen makeup and then follow with the cleanser.

One of our favorite things about this face wash is how soft the skin feels after using the product. For a reasonable price, this is a skincare product to consider.

What Makes A Good Face Cleanser?

Regardless of the type of skin you have, looking for a cleanser that is free of artificial fragrances, harsh sulfates, parabens, and dyes is a smart idea.

These ingredients can irritate the skin. We also like face wash that has humectants in it but is non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores).

When Should Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser Be Applied?

We always recommend washing the face twice a day, or at the very minimum, in the evening before bed.

The Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser is gentle enough to use two times a day.

We like it for a quick, refreshing wash in the morning and then to follow a makeup remover at night.

Final Thoughts

You can get comparable products out there for twice the cost of the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser, and some work about the same.

Sure, there are super cheap face washes available over the counter, but with most of those, we notice skin irritation or waxy residues left behind on the skin.

Overall, this is a really decent product for a fair price that omits the harsh ingredients.

There’s a reason many young people have jumped on the Glossier bandwagon.

The company makes excellent skincare and makeup, supports natural-looking beauty, and does not overcharge. Give this Milky Jelly Cleanser a shot today.
