Even with the new versions of WP, you can get CURL errors that will timeout if your ping list is too long. This is especially hard on services that may be providing articles for your blogs.
I wish someone would provide an effective small ping list.

I have some basic questions about blog promotion, specifically about pinging services. The full article is in my signature link but my specific questions are:
1. Are additional ping efforts in addition to the basic setting in blogger (or WordPress) worth the effort?
2. If additional submissions help, how do I compare pingomatic, pinggoat, pingler, and the other free pinging services?
3. Do repeated pings of a blog, whose content has not been updated, help? What about pings about posts that are not new? Does that refresh or build new links?
4. Do pings from forums help build the forums listing in the engines?
5. Would a ping from a regular website help build links to it? If so, would a ping of each page of the website help?

Thanks for this list. I made a comprehensive research about all known ping servers worldwide and TESTED all of them with astonishing results.
I published several pdf’s with “Ping services that stopped, not working or bad”, “Ping services for special languages (for one language only)” and “Ping services for all languages, Special ping services and Automated ping”.
If you spend some time you can create the strongest ping list ever from all of those ping lists.
