Blog Action Day Is Coming Up: Are You Joining?
Every year, early in October I receive an email from the Change.org guys asking if I am interested in participating in Blog Action Day. My answer is always a “Sure, count me in!”. That is because I think this is one of the few genuine initiatives around the web where bloggers can do something to help other people without expecting something in return.
For those not familiar with the initiative, it`s basically a day (October 15) where bloggers from around the world get together to talk about an important issues, with the goal of raising awareness about them and hopefully getting people to take action. The 2008 edition had over 20,000 participant blogs, achieving over 14 million RSS readers combined.
This year`s edition is going to be about water, and here is why (quoting directly from the official website):
Right now, almost a billion people on the planet don’t have access to clean, safe drinking water. That’s one in eight of us who are subject to preventable disease and even death because of something that many of us take for granted.
Access to clean water is not just a human rights issue. It’s an environmental issue. An animal welfare issue. A sustainability issue. Water is a global issue, and it affects all of us.
There are several ways to participate, including:
- Writing about the Blog Action Day event before October 15, to spread the word about it.
- Joining Blog Action Day and writing a post about water related issues on October 15.
- Displaying badges about the event on your blog.
- Promoting the event or participant blogs on social media (e.g., Twitter, Facebook).
You can register up to participate and get more information on the official Blog Action Day website.

Yes sure am supporting this! I would be writing an article on my blog about this today and lets spread the word to our readers. Infact we bloggers can really make a difference, cos be it in any niche – people / our readers are our strength !!

We’re signed up and spreading the word as well…..
More than 37,000 children die each week from not having access to clean water… Writing a blog post to help bring attention to the problem is the very LEAST we can do!

We never get any photos or videos from you.
So we hope this time we will get some visuals.

This is for the good cause…very nice…surely joining..
change.org — While the water cause is very worthy, a quick glance at their “causes” that they push show some troubling information.
Animals… Pushing the cause of animal rights…. then you goto “Women’s Rights” which translates into abortion rights…
Gotta love organizations that put energy into the well being of animals but not full grown, unborn babies.
Remove the politics from the situation and try to explain that one rationally.
Nevertheless, I hope lots of people help w/ the water campaign, its a great cause!

I signed up to participate this year just the other day. I have the widget beneath my blog posts. Water is becoming an important issue all around the world.
I have already signed up, added my widget and started writing my post for October 15th.
